Marco V. Elements 2012. Be there!

Marco V has a special place in my heart. He's one of the first electronic artists I ever listened to, back in my early university years. I still listen to his album 200V (I can't believe that was released SIX years ago!), and reminisce of the good old Warehouse days. If you haven't heard classic Marco V, I highly recommend you check out some tracks from that album, including False Light, Red Blue Purple, and my favorite - Second Bite. I'll post links below.

Back to the present time - Marco V released a new tune earlier this month called Analogital. And it's freaking fantastic. The drop in the original mix blew my mind the first time hearing it... and don't be surprised if you hear me play in my next live set! The Hard Rock Sofa remix is a great banger (not as good as the original IMO), the Bassjackers remix is... nothing new really. But the First State remix makes up for the other remixes - it's got a dooope drop. There's also a remix by Vida, which has a much more progressive house vibe to it.

Apparently the "internet police" are being very strict with this release, I found it really tough to find these tracks for free - however I did find all of them except for the Vida remix! With that said, I'd recommend you download these quick before they get taken down. Enjoy! :)

Oh, and by the way - Marco V is performing at the Elements Music Festival, in Edmonton this coming April. Canada's biggest music festival, so effing stoked! I'll see you there?

Chill Out Sundays #1

Woah! My first stab at a weekly release. Every Sunday I plan to share with you guys some nice mellow, chilled out music to relax to. First up: Ill-Esha.

I first discovered Ill-Esha when she performed in Calgary back in summer 2010, at a show at the Big 4... I think the show was called Basscannon? Anywho, I was blown away - a female DJ that sings while spinning?! Yes pleaaase. Fingers crossed to see her at Shambhala this summer!

Last summer Ill-Esha released a fantastic EP called Elusive History. I've been enjoying it immensely the past few weeks; it's got some awesome chill dubstep and glitch-hop, along with some gorgeous vocals. Hope you guys enjoy :)

Downloads:

Ill-Esha - Only Fair
Ill-Esha - Parallel Futures
Ill-Esha - Fireflies
Ill-Esha - Only Fair (Gladkill Remix)
Ill-Esha - Only Fair (Unsub Remix)

You Didn't Have To Cut Me Off

Hey guys! Just a quick post today. I wanted to share two remixes to Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know. The song was part of my set last weekend for both the party at The Gateway as well as at Mt. Pleasant Community Hall. The remix I played is the one by dBerrie. I'll never forget the crowd reaction during the song! It was awesome to see so many people singing along :) The LAZRtag bootleg is slightly different but good as well!

Free downloads!

Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (dBerrie Remix)
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (LAZRtag Bootleg)

(Sidenote: The Can't-Buy-Me-Love party was an inspiration and I am so happy I was a part of the magic! It's mindblowing how a "pay what you want" bar can be so successful.)

Valentine's From Dillon Francis

First off - apologies for missing out on some posts this week. I've been busy practicing and preparing an epic set for the Mardi Gras Masquerade party tonight (Facebook event here). The most significant release this past week for me:

Dillon Francis released a new EP on Valentine's Day titled Something, Something, Awesome. To be honest, the first track Falling Up is a major letdown, and just sounds... annoying to me. However the other two tracks make up for it by providing the type of moombahton I've come to expect from Dillon. Now Hear This is a much heavier, crazier twist on his recent release, I.D.G.A.F.O.S. (my favorite song of his, actually), while Dill The Noise is a collab with Kill The Noise.

Downloads:
Dillon Francis - Falling Up (Original Mix)
Dillon Francis - Now Hear This (Original Mix)
Dillon Francis & Kill The Noise - Dill The Noise (Original Mix)

BONUS! Dillon Francis - I.D.G.A.F.O.S.

Live It Up Like It's The Weekend

I'm not a huge fan of Mondays. Especially when I need to go to a 3 hour class at 9am. So I thought today I'd share two songs I recently found that are guaranteed to cheer you up and/or make you dance. And who doesn't like free downloads?

Wiz Khalifa - No Sleep (Aylen Remix)

Chiddy Bang - Ray Charles (Skeet Skeet Moombahton Remix)

Enjoy :)

A Dollar Is What I Need

While my fingers are crossed that Laidback Luke will be gracing the stage at Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas again this June, I thought I would share a song he created for his set there last summer.

Everyone knows I Need A Dollar by Aloe Blacc, but LL decided to combine it with his track with Diplo, Hey!... cleverly combining the "hey, hey" from the former with the other "Hey! Hey! Hey!"s of the latter. Well played, sir.

Aloe Blacc vs. Laidback Luke & Diplo - Hey I Need A Dollar (Laidback Luke Mashup)

And if you have some extra time to kill splurge, check out a KILLER set that got posted online last week which he played down under in Sydney back in January. Highlights for me: mashing together Dada Life's Kick Out The Epic Motherf**ker with Congorock's Babylon, and Laidback Luke's edit to Nero's remix of Feel So Close. Epiiiiiic! :)

Laidback Luke - Club FG (Live @ Sydney, Australia)

BONUS TRACK! [Jungle] The Wildlife Collective - I Need A Dollar

Moombahlicious.

gLAdiator is a DJ/production duo comprised of Dan Goodman & Ian Johnson. Hailing from the City of Angels, the duo is on a warpath, rocking crowds and creating robot sex music.

Drawing influences from genres like electro, hip-hop and moombahton, as well as artists such as Laidback Luke, Jack Beats, Boys Noize, Bart B More, Clockwork, Dada Life, Wolfgang Gartner, Dave Nada, gives their music a unique sound all its own.

Anyway, today I wanted to share their new EP, Brand New. The EP starts off strong with gLAdiator's original mix that is just... moombahlicious and swagtastic. But for me the highlight has gotta be track 2 - the Aylen remix. It's just got way more bass and umph than the original. Next up is the Lazerdisk Party Sex remix, which is in the style known as "Baltimore Club". It's basically a bouncy, fun, sped-up house track (I'm assuming 140bpm). The Cy Kosis remix treats us to two crazy drops that are literally candy for the ears. If that makes sense. Planet Rock's remix is just a meh, and the EP finishes off nicely with Team Jaguar's slightly dirty dutch style electro track.

Also, I've gotta give props to these guys, since according to their soundcloud:

Their music has been supported by the likes of Diplo, ETC!ETC!, Aylen & Dillon Francis. These artists and an undying love for the Los Angeles Lakers inspired them to start making booty-poppin tracks in the hopes of seducing Mila Kunis.

And who doesn't love some Mila Kunis?

It's Like, BOOM, Headshot!

Feed Me just released this new EP three days ago, and if you haven't heard of Feed Me before - now is the time to check him out! While there are some mellow progressive house tracks on here (very Deadmau5-esque... hence the Mau5trap record label), the highlights for me are Trapdoor (which was leaked online months ago) and One Click Headshot. Trapdoor supplies some melodic drumstep, while One Click Headshot is a fantastic moombahton track. I'm pretty sure it uses the same drum sample from Will Smith's "Switch"... anyone else hear the similarity? And if anyone recognizes where the vocal sample came from in that track, I'd love to know!

But enough talking:

Po: R.I.P.

For those of you who stayed til the end of Adventure Club's set back at The Gateway a couple weeks ago, you may have noticed little bunches of cotton scattered all over the dance floor. You may have also noticed that the lovable stuffed panda Po (named after the kung fu master himself) mysteriously disappeared that night. Indeed, it seems that Po may have gone a little too crazy during my set and was torn apart by the killer bass. That's right - PK Sound is to blame for his death. But I forgive them.

Po, you may be replaced but you will never be forgotten. I hope panda heaven has more bamboo trees and noodles than you can possibly handle.

Ska-DOOSH.

Hey guys! So I've decided to start a blog that will encompass my musical... hobby. If you've seen me in the past and you like the music I play, check back often - I plan to post new songs, albums, and EPs coming out that I love on a regular basis. (And eventually.. my own productions!)

Another reason I've started this is to offer a place to easily share my old mixes. Soundcloud will always have my latest mix, but soon I'll add links here to all my old mixes, with track listings and a description.

Finally, I'm looking forward to posting general rants about anything music related going on - shows, festivals, announcements, etc.

Anywho, if any of this interests you... lemme know :) And bookmark it!

Party on,
Bass Panda
