Flashback Fridays #4

WOW, last night's electro swing show at the Distillery was amazing. I had an absolute riot playing for everyone. I loved the fact that so many people dressed up in the 1920's/30's swing style. Very classy.

So for today's flashback friday, I thought I'd share a few tracks I played last night for ya to get you swinging and twisting...

First up is a remix by F.M.R. (From My Reality) of my favorite track from the classic movie The Mask. It's the swing tune Hey Pachuco, by Royal Crown Revue. The remix gives it a sweet electro twist... I've had this track for a very long time now, and it was sweet to finally have a perfect setting to play it in :)

Next are two remixes by the DJ's From Mars. They've got two electro house remixes of the classic song The Twist by The Beatles, and Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock. Downloads below!

King Junior vs. Ricky Rich - Jailhouse Rock 2k11 (DJ's From Mars Club Remix)

Flashback Fridays #3

Today I'm bringing back classic rock! Three remixes for ya, from three of my favorite classic rock bands: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Who.

First up is a mashup of Zeppelin, done by Pretty Lights. The track samples pieces of 7 Led Zeppelin tracks collaged together and then reflected thru a prism of hip-hop, downtempo, and dubstep. They've got it up for free on their soundcloud.

Next up is a sweet dub remix of the timeless classic (pun intended), Time, by Pink Floyd. Also done by Pretty Lights.
Download it here: Pink Floyd - Time (Pretty Lights Remix)

Finally, I've got a remix of The Who's Who Are You, done by The Funk Hunters. The first half of the track is just a mellow buildup for the second half - which is drum and bass! So awesome. Free download on their soundcloud. Enjoy! :)

Clockwork - Squad Up EP

If you think you haven't heard of Clockwork yet, you probably have: his remix of Avicii's Levels (Listen to it here) has gained more popularity than the original, so I can guarantee you'd recognize it. So when I heard Clockwork was releasing his first EP this week, I was pretty damn excited.

“The Squad Up EP marks Clockwork’s full realization of the bass-heavy, no-frill electro sound that he has developed since he first threw himself into the dance music scene. Expect the unique marriage of heavy bass lines, thundering drum patterns, and memorable drops, representing the big room sound that is Clockwork.” via Dim Mak Records

The first track, Squad Up, is a fun electro house track with a sweet drop. The vocal mix just adds in some dude saying "raise your hands up", and the Torro Torro remix slows it down to the moombahton speed. Not the best track in my opinion, it's actually pretty boring and... slow.

Next up is Nox, which is a cool track, but what I really love is the remix by Botnek, which adds a much needed kick ass dirty dutch feel to the song.

Lastly on the EP is Hulk, which is another electro house track. But I much prefer the lovely moombahton remix of it by the one and only Dillon Francis. The drop on that one is awesome, I can't wait to try it out live at a show!

So if you don't feel like downloading the whole EP, my recommendations are definitely the original Squad Up, Botnek's version of Nox, and Dillon Francis' remix of Hulk. Downloads below. Enjoy!

Chill Out Sundays #4

I recently discovered a dj by the name of Auditory Canvas, and he's been making some incredible EPs for a while now within the genres of downtempo, chill electronic, and glitch. The kind of dj you'd see at a Vibesquad or Random Rab show. Some very relaxing stuff :)

Featuring a beautiful layering of sounds, his latest EP Rise is mellow without becoming drowsy, rhythmic without becoming repetitive and includes just the right amount of bass. Five tracks, all for free off his website.

Grab the EP here!

Also, be sure to check out his website, it's very cool with some great artwork and plenty of music.

Chill Out Sundays #3

I've got a really special treat for you guys this week. I discovered this mix about a month ago, and it is the most relaxing, calming music I've maybe ever heard. This stuff is perfect for background music while studying, falling asleep to, or meditating to. The first six minutes alone are mindblowing; there are no drums or beats introduced until later. And the intro is just... incredible. You've got to listen to it, I guarantee it'll make you smile. I can't wait to try to listen to this set while on a sound therapy bed, feeling the bass shake my entire body... hellz yes!!

The long mix (clocking in at 1 hr 41 min) is called Forested Enchants, and it's by Therapist. They've categorized the genre as "psychill or downtempo", if that helps. Check it out on their soundcloud where they have a free download.

Flashback Fridays #2

This week I'm bringing back 80's glam metal and "hard rock" (lol) with two dirty electro-house remixes. The first one is a remix by Kids At The Bar, of Quiet Riot's Cum On Feel The Noize. Keep in mind it is a few years old, so it's not the crazy bass heavy stuff I usually like. But hands down, the remix of Mötley Crüe's Girls, Girls, Girls is much better. It's by Haydn Hoffman, and man is the drop nuts! I played it live at my last set and did it ever get people dancing :) How this remix has only 1000 downloads on his soundcloud is beyond me.

Check em out!

Swedish Fish Mafia

This video just got posted on youtube yesterday, and it's freaking hilarious. An idiot's guide to electronic dance music. And he's wearing a panda hat! How could I not share it?

Thank You! Like Boom!

I wanted to share with everyone something big and... just awesome today, for two reasons: yesterday, my viewcount for this blog surpassed 500 hits, and the Bass Panda fan page on Facebook reached over 200 likes! WOW! Thank you guys so much. I really wasn't sure if this whole blog thing was a good idea from the start. I had doubts if anyone would be coming to check it out - but I've had people from all over the world visit here (even Russia?!) so that's pretty dope :)

So as a big thank you, I've personally uploaded a recent, massive release by Nick Thayer. It's his new EP titled Like Boom. And man, does it have everything. 7 original songs and 3 remixes, ranging in genres from hip-hop to moombahton, dubstep, and drum and bass. But where this album really shines is the moombahton. My two fav tracks are Facepalm (Original Mix) and Like Boom (Nick Thayer Remix).

Oh, and by the way... he's playing in Calgary on St. Paddy's Day, Facebook event here.
Oh... and also, at Act A Fool 2 in Edmonton. Holy!

Chill Out Sundays #2

A few months back I came across a remix to a track by Linkin Park called The Catalyst. It's off their newest album (A Thousand Suns). The remix is by someone by the name of Coastill, and he's turned it into a sweet chill, mellow dubstep tune that is awesome to listen while relaxing. Free download below!

Another track I wanted to share is a very, very relaxing dubstep remix of Avicii's Drowning, by B Lett. It's definitely the kinda tune you could listen to as you fall asleep. Just follow the link below for a free download. Hope you enjoy it :)

Flashback Fridays #1

Along with Chill Out Sundays, I'm bringing in another weekly theme - every Friday is Flashback Fridays! I'll basically be sharing some epic new remixes of old songs.

First up: An EP that was released back in December by two djs that you've probably never heard of - 3LAU and Acetronik. It's called Relics of a Dance Attic and has two original remixes and a mashup. Probably my favorite of the three is their remix of Incubus's Drive, which has an awesome "big house" vibe to it. I really like what they do with the vocals at the last drop as well. And then there's a remix of Chumbawamba's Tubthumping (although they incorrectly called it Knocked Down) which is just as fun to sing along to as it was back in my elementary school days... Finally, there's a mashup of Journey's Don't Stop Believing vs David Guetta & Usher's Without You. Nothing special about that one in my opinion.

You can preview the songs with the embedded soundcloud player, and download the EP below:

Unreleased Knife Party + Beatboxing?!

Knife Party is a name that already needs no introduction. The side project of two members from Pendulum has quickly become one of the fastest growing and most demanded names around the world in just the past half year. Their first and only EP 100% No Modern Talking is just ridiculous, and I can't count the number of times Internet Friends has been remixed!

Back on Feb 15, Knife Party premiered their latest remix of Labrinth’s Last Time on UKF; and damn, is it good. It starts out with a great vocal build up from Labrinth, and then drops into that heavy, fast-paced Knife Party sound that we all know and love. No release date set yet, but expect it in March. In the meantime... here's a leaked version of it - and yes, it is top quality 320kbps. You're welcome. :)

Labrinth - Last Time (Knife Party Remix)

I also wanted to have a quick plug for a friend of mine who frequently shares the stage with me, the up-and-coming beatboxer known as Busy Beatz. I helped him record a 5 minute demo yesterday, and it is seriously sick shit. This demo is his window into potentially performing at big music festivals this summer, so please, check out his demo below, and more importantly: favorite or leave a comment. Keep in mind that the whole 5 minutes is freestyle - improvised! Thanks guys!
